OK. I'm sick of people thinking I voted for Trump just because I'm American. I fucking hate Trump. I have never voted for him and I never will. I'm also fucking fed up with being assumed to be racist just because of when I was born. I hate racism and bigotry of any kind, just because some other people my age are bigots it does NOT mean I am!

I had a really interesting day yesterday. Beautiful weather. Hung out with a couple of friends, had tea and a slice of red velvet cake at my favorite cafe, did a lot of fascinating reading and pub hopped with one of my friends. Heard some great music. We even did some karaokeing. The only negative thing in the whole day was I went into Whole Foods to try to get roast beef to make a sandwich and the deli woman took her time and I couldn't even get any because I like it rare and the whole damn roast was burned to a crisp. And she gave me an argument when I complained.

Snowflake Challenge: A warmly light quaint street of shops at night with heavy snow falling.

Challenge #5: Wish List
In your own space, create a list of at least three things you'd love to receive, a wishlist of sorts.

One of my favorite challenges! Which doesn't mean it's not somewhat difficult, but I do like thinking about what kinds of things I really want to ask for and also looking at other people's lists.

  • More fanworks for Thundercloud Rainstorm. I watched this a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it, but I've been sad to see there are less than 10 fics! I'd love to see more fics, but also art and edits and meta and anything else.

  • Tarot, oracle, playing card, rune, or other magical reading. I do tarot readings for myself occasionally, but I rarely have the chance to have a reading done by someone else! If you do readings that are a little less than standard, whether that's in medium or interpretation or whatever, I'd especially love one.

  • Artwork of my D&D characters. I play in a few different campaigns at the moment, and I'd love to have artwork of my characters! Under the cut I have descriptions and reference pictures.

I might or might not make this a series about the random things I've been "researching" at one point or another. I'm not sure if researching is the correct term as I'm watching several YouTube videos and reading bits and pieces about it here and there, but it's not necessarily pointed towards anything specific.

Lately, I've looked a lot towards architecture. It's been something that has interested me on and off for a long time. Possibly as far back as when my parents built the house they live in when I was eleven. I remember drawing floor plans while at university and probably at school as well. I certainly remember not having it as an option for a degree because I wasn't good at art and technical drawing was too much like art. What I still do is take pictures of random houses while I'm out and about whether I'm on vacation or just taking a walk.

read more of my architecture ramblings )

All of that makes me want to learn more about architecture. It also feeds into my world building. Well, my "pointless" world building for a fantasy or sci-fi setting for a story and society that is absolutely non-existent. Still, it's fun and that's all that matters and maybe one day I'll figure out the rest of the world building :)

Got some groceries, on the way back home some asshat almost ran me over with his damn SUV when I was trying to cross the street. He stuck up his hand like that makes it OK, I swore at him but he had his window closed so I doubt he heard me.
Had an interesting conversation over text w/a friend about Lord of the Rings.

    On Thursday, whoops.

    Reading
    • I finished Clariel by Garth Nix. It was fine, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I'd hoped. I was much more interested in the potential story a after the story than the one that was, you know, in the actual book. Oh well.
    • Ficwise, I've been reading a lot of NutHong and JunDylan fics, with a sprinkling of other things including more Yuletide fics.
    Watching
    • The roommate and I finished Cherry Magic. It was great! Very sweet and I enjoyed TayNew and JuniorMark a lot. I did wish there was a bit more of the side pairing's relationship, but what we did get was good.
    • The roommate and I started watching Ossan's Love. Even sillier than I expected, especially Earth's character! I was getting a bit of second hand embarrassment tbh, but I'll push through and hope that passes.
    • The roommate, best friend, and I watched the latest episode of Goddess Bless You From Death. I feel a little like we're getting edged for shit really going down, but it's still great. I also was proved right for a theory I voiced in like the second episode, so very happy about that lol
    • The roommate, best friend, and I watched the latest episodes of Me and Thee. So sweet! So funny! Still so sad it's almost over!
    • The roommate, best friend, and I watched the latest episode of Burnout Syndrome. The drama with these characters is like watching a train wreck tbh lol
    • The roommate, best friend, and I watched the latest episode of Melody of Secrets. Halfway through and I can confidently say I still don't know what's going on :)
    • The roommate, best friend, and I watched the latest episodes of Dare You to Death. Things are definitely picking up! Like, wow, really picking up. I was not expecting them to kiss in the third episode, but here we are. Not that I'm complaining!
    • The roommate, best friend, and I finished ThamePo Heart That Skips a Beat. Loved it once again! The best friend did as well, which I'm very happy about. Made me more excited to see everyone's upcoming shows this year.
    • The roommate, best friend, and I started watching 4 Minutes. I'm not sure what I expected from this series, but it's definitely a lot darker than I'd assumed it'd be. In some ways similar vibes to Dead Friend Forever, which I don't love, but I am liking it more than that so far. The allure of Bible is at least strong enough to get me through, especially since it's a shorter series.
    • The roommate and I went to see Labyrinth in theaters for the 40th anniversary. It was so nice seeing it on the big screen for the first time! Love this movie.
    Listening
    • T-pop this week has been a lot of Perses after seeing them on Idol Energy. They've got a different vibe than what I'm used to, but I'm enjoying them.
    • Caught up on some more Ouija Broads episodes.
    Writing
    • I wrote a fic for a Just the Tip flash exchange.
    • I started writing an OhmLeng fic after waking up yesterday being suddenly very sad about them lol
    Learning
    • New category! Because I am trying to do more active learning of things this year and maybe this will be good incentive to keep that up.
    • Did some more of Pimsleur's Thai. Still need to do more to see if I like it and it's working, but the second lesson was definitely easier than the first. To be fair, it's covered several words/phrases I already know, so we'll see if that continues as it goes on.

    Challenge #2: Pets of Fandom
Loosely defined! Post about your pets, pets from your canon, anything you want!

When I saw this challenge, I knew immediately what I wanted to do for it. I've gotten really into Thai BL dramas the past six months, and have started following a ton of the actors on instagram. And also following their pets as well! So here's some of those :)

When the weekend flies by while you do some new year's cleaning... is it really already past 9pm on Sunday? I pushed of my "lunch" so late, it's currently in the oven. Oh well. I chose to stay in bed for another two hours or so after waking up yesterday and it didn't help my long to do list. Some of which I did today and for the rest? Well, the rest of January should still be fine, right?

And as I'm writing this, I remember that I forgot to drop off (and write really) a birthday card in the mail. I mean, there's still a chance it could be on time, but I've experience the past year or so has shown that an additional day is better now that the postal system is allowed to take two days instead of one to delivery letters within Germany. I got so distracted with my to do list and I hadn't written it down for some reason.

I've kept myself entertained with listening to podcasts that are several years old that I still open tabs for. They are about writing, fandom and random non-fandom stuff from medical issues to just people. It doesn't even try to be censor itself (unless it involves fandoms like Hannibal) and can involve a lot of ramblings and laughter. They also range from an hour to 4+ hours. I'm highly amused.

And that's it for today as my dinner is ready and I should eat before it gets even later...

Having some Lapsang Souchong. The ice cream was great. I don't know why they don't publicize this more but they do this thing called a flight where you can have little scoops of six different flavors. I had chocolate, maple, banana, black walnut, butter pecan and mocha almond fudge. (I would have had eggnog but they ran out. Frankly if they sold eggnog in June I would buy it.)
Tonight I'm going to LoCoco to get Italian food and a glass of wine for dinner.

Had some black tea with cinnamon and cloves and then went out to pick up a six pack of beer because I'm having a friend come over tonight for pizza and popcorn and movies. I'm really looking forward to it.
I finally got so fed up with these fucking phone scammers that I told one of them they were all full of shit and he called me a "bloody whore bitch" and I just laughed and hung up on him. I'm not the fucking criminal here, they are and I have no idea why they think we're stupid enough to fall for those scams. They all seem to have the same Indian accent and I can't help wondering what the fuck is going on in India that there seem to be so many of them there.

    Challenge #1
The Icebreaker Challenge: Introduce yourself. Tell us why you're doing the challenge, and what you hope to gain from it.

Hello! I'm Reeby. I've been in fandom for close to 20 years in a variety of fandoms doing a variety of different things. I've got a sticky post with a little more about me and my blog here.

Fandom Snowflake Challenge is one of my favorite parts of the year because it feels like such a celebration of fans and fandom. I'm getting into it a little late this year, but that's fine! There's plenty of time, and the important part is that I'm enjoying myself. For what I want to get out of the challenge... I really just want to get back into feeling like an active part of fandom, and I think this is a great way to do that. I want to feel less like a lurker. I want to interact with other fans. I want to post more in general, but especially here on DW.

So here I am! Looking forward to it :)

It's been awhile, so this gets a bit long!

    Reading
    • Read a bit more of Clariel by Garth Nix. I was having a bit of a hard time getting into it, but I think I'm mostly past that now.
    • I started reading High Stakes and Bloody Business, an anthology of vampire whump stories the roommate was published in last year. I'd already read her story of course, but I'm enjoying the others as well!
    • I started reading Dominicana by Angie Cruz, the current read for my work book club. I am uhhh not enjoying it. It's not a genre I particularly like anyway, but the family dynamics and domestic violence is especially not. Our meeting got postponed two weeks and I'm not sure if I'll try to finish or just DNF bc I'm not even halfway yet.
    • Firmly back into reading fic, yay! I got some excellent gifts for Yuletide and have been reading my way through the rest of the collection (rec list later!). I've also been reading a lot of JunDylan from ThamePo and NutHong, and having a good time :D Currently I'm reading a NutHong college AU series called And If They Talk... by [archiveofourown.org profile] firstknpn .
    Watching
    • The roommate and I finished Project Alpha. So much fun! I loved seeing the boys getting more comfortable with each other. And of course the performances were great.
    • The roommate and I watched Alpha Roommates, a follow up for Project Alpha about the winners going on a bonding trip before debuting as a band. So freaking cute!
    • The roommate and I finished Idol Energy. Very fun, and I enjoyed seeing Perses since I didn't know any of them before.
    • The roommate ad i started watching Cherry Magic. I've read most of the manga and watched the Japanese drama when it first aired, so I was really excited for this. And I have not been disappointed! So cute and sweet and funny.
    • The roommate, best friend, and I watched the latest episode of Goddess Bless You From Death. The spookiness and mystery continues to be banger.
    • The roommate, best friend, and I watched the latest episodes of Me and Thee. Love this show so much, ugh. I'm sad it's going to be over soon :(
    • The roommate, best friend, and I watched the latest episode of Burnout Syndrome. Wild show, enjoying it a lot.
    • The roommate, best friend, and I watched the latest episode of Melody of Secrets. The mystery continues to deepen and hasn't really started to become more clear yet lol
    • The roommate, best friend and I started watching Dare You to Death. A bit of a slow start imo, but I'm looking forward to more. Especially with so many actors I like!
    • The roommate, best friend, and I started watching ThamePo Heart That Skips a Beat. A rewatch for the roommate and I, and still so good! Especially after watcing so much more LYKN stuff.
    • I watched Thundercloud Rainstorm. A Korean BL this time! I'd been seeing a lot of it on tumblr that looked intriguing (D/S, cousin incest... the good stuff lol), and I did enjoy it quite a lot.
    • I rewatched The Muppet Christmas Carol while I was home for Christmas. A very good movie, of course.
    • We also watched Five Golden Rings, a Hallmark Mysteries Christmas movie. I was mostly there for Holland Roden, but it was a pretty good movie.
    • I watched Nomura's Giant Swarm, a documentary about Giant Nomura Jellyfish taking over the waters around Japan and causing a lot of problems for the fishing industry there. Very interesting!
    • The roommate and I went to see Anaconda in theaters. It was pretty much just as expected, which is to say I had a great time :)
    Listening
    • As per usual, I've listened to a lot of t-pop, LYKN in particular.
    • Caught up on some more Ouija Broads episodes. I'm really glad they're back posting even if there's a lot of time between episodes!
    • Also started catching up on some Happier with Gretchen Rubin episodes. I really enjoy their stuff around New Year's, with goals and words of the year and all that.
    • Idk if this really counts in this category, but I started listening to Pimsleur's Thai, which is an audio language learning system. This one's for Thai, obviously lol Because I am determined to learn! I did the first lesson and it was pretty hard, so we'll see how it goes.
    Writing
    • I started writing one of my overdue holiday ficlets. It's for a fandom I don't know so uhhh it's taking some time.
    • Wrote a poem.
    • I started writing a fic for Thundercloud Rainstorm because... well, I really needed some canon divergence mpreg lol

I went to Oakland Chinatown to get lunch at Shan Dong (they do amazing hand rolled noodles) but they were closed and so were about 25 other restaurants around there so it took me a lot longer than I liked to walk around trying to find an open one.
